Get to know Flaine Ski Resort

Flaine is well known for its wide range of activities and stunning panoramic views. Founded in the 1960s, Flaine offers 140 kilometres of snowy runs. Beyond skiing, visitors can enjoy other non-ski activities, guided tours, and get to know the village. We go into deeper detail in the below sections.

Skiing and activities in Flaine

The ski season goes from December to April, and on snow, on ice, or in the air, the difficult part will be to choose what to do. In addition to the ski and non-ski activities, you can get to know the cultural leisure, including city games, cinema, and guided visits. In the following sections, we will go over all the wide range of activities available to you at the Flaine resort.

Flaine skiing: an overview

Pinpointed in the centre of the Northern Alps, Flaine ski resort has over 64 snowy pistes. 140 kilometres of runs and 24 ski lifts are available and adaptable for different levels of skiers. There are also 800 metres of freeride-marked pistes. Note that they’re not groomed. These are supervised to guarantee your safety. And there’s an option to book a guided ski run where a professional instructor takes you around to some of the most beautiful places.

Non-skiing activities in Flaine

There are many snow-based activities not related to skiing. Some of these non-ski activities include dog sledding, where you get to go on a snowy journey while creating a connection with adorable husky dogs, which is all the time supervised by professionals. Booking is mandatory, so be sure to check in advance.

Another alternative is experiencing the moonbike, where you get to drive a type of motorcycle or e-bike for a whole hour. Prices are 70 euros per person. You can also do mountain kart; 616 metres of terrain are available, and every session lasts 30 minutes.

Other alternatives include yoga relaxation trails, snowmobile rides, and pedestrian walks.

Things to do in Flaine village

One of the top things to do is visit Studio 1600, a one-room cinema with a variety of movie categories to choose from. English and French are spoken here. You can also do a guided visit to the modern art museum, an open-air modern museum. The price is free, however only the French language is available. Another alternative is the Gaëlle Foray, a library in the centre of Flaine. Guided visits are available every Tuesday to the contemporary museum.

Family-friendly and kids’ fun in Flaine

The family friendliness of the Flaine resorts is noticeable. Some children’s activities in Flaine are treetop trails, available during the summer season. The kids get to do many outdoor activities like zip line and acrobatic workshops. During the winter season, some popular choices are the sledding areas, and the good part of it is that the toboggan runs are free to use. You can find them under Jean Dubuffet’s sculpture. Different zones are available with different difficulty levels.

Flaine après-ski

There are some après-ski options to relax after a day on the slopes. And, talking about the slopes, you have La Pente à Jules, the place where all the skiers hang out; it’s located on the slopes and has indoor and outdoor seating. The burgers and the wraps are very popular there, so it’s a great option to grab a snack after a full day in the ski area. Another option is the Le Désert Blanc snack bar; it’s located on the Grandes Platières cable car, and you can enjoy a drink while having a panoramic view of the mountains.

Flaine restaurants

There are so many restaurant options at the Flaine resort. One of the choices is L’Éloge, a super warm and welcoming place where you get to enjoy some food with background music. This restaurant is also a great option for apes-ski, as they offer an entertaining environment twice a week.

If you’re feeling like trying a traditional restaurant with French cuisine and great seafood, Le Bauhaus is the place to go. Our last suggestion is Le Michet, where you get to taste the savoyard specialities in a very traditional restaurant. They use fresh products from local producers.
