About the resort

Les Deux Alpes is a ski resort with all the charm of a traditional mountain getaway set high up in the French Alps, just at the base of the Ecrins National Park.

With its high altitude and snowsure reputation, Les Deux Alpes has winter seasons stretching from early December through to Late April, with the glacier area opening even earlier. Whether you’re after thrilling slopes or a quiet getaway, Les Deux Alpes won’t disappoint.

Skiing in Les Deux Alpes

With an impressive 225km of slopes, the resort offers a wide range of runs, from gentle green and blue runs to challenging reds and expert skiers can head to La Grave for more of a challenge. The diverse terrain will test skiers and snowboarders alike, not to mention the largest skiable glacier in Europe. And did we mention the longest fully on-piste vertical available in the world at 2,200m?

Beginners will appreciate the gentle nursery slopes in the lower village, while advanced skiers can tackle the challenging black runs and off-piste trails or can catch the snowcat connection to La Grave where some of the world’s best off piste terrain can be found. As for freestyle lovers, the resort boasts a world-class snow park complete with jumps, rails, and a half-pipe.

Things to do in Les Deux Alpes

As one of the liveliest resorts in France, you’ll be spoilt for choice if you need a break from skiing. Off the slopes, the resort has plenty to offer. The charming, authentic villages are brimming with apres-ski activities, including cosy cafes, lively bars and gourmet restaurants.

Non-skiers are well-catered for too, from ice-skating to paragliding to snow-shoeing to a healthy shopping experience. Families find the resort welcoming too, with dedicated kids zones and ski schools.

Activities

  • Check out the Dome Funicular Express, which not only links the ski areas but also includes some of the area’s other attractions, such as the ice caves. The ice caves themselves are magical grottoes of glistening sculptures created by local artists.
  • Rock climbers can take advantage of the huge number of routes in the Oisans region as well as the Ecrins National Park. The views will take your breath away. And if you want to add some adrenaline, then ice climbing in some of the 600 waterfalls in the Oisans area might be right up your street.
  • Set on the Soreiller summit at 3400m and just a 5-minute walk from the arrival of the funicular, experience a 7-metre long step into the void overlooking La Selle valley, 1,500m below.
  • For a different view, hot air ballooning, paragliding and helicopter tours all offer you the chance to sit back and admire the Alpine views from a completely different perspective.
