You’re spoilt for choice when it comes to airports. Chambery airport is the closest airport to Courchevel with transfer times of around 1 hour. However Grenoble airport is underrated as an option, 182km away. And Lyon airport also provides reliable and fast transfers to Courchevel thanks to well-maintained road links.

With the private Courchevel altiport, helicopter transfers are an option and the ultimate in luxury arrivals.

Courchevel is linked to France by well-maintained, toll-paying autoroutes. The most direct route is along the A1-A41- A40 motorway route, which takes around an hour. It’s pretty straight until Moûtiers but then the route becomes winding as you make your way to the resort. Drivers need to take care during peak winter season when roads may become hazardous.

This is becoming increasingly popular with travellers to Courchevel, with excellent links between the major airports and train stations. The nearest train station is in Moûtiers, only 20km from Courchevel itself, so you can get a transfer and be there in under half an hour.

Once you arrive, you’ll find that you won’t really need a car. Free shuttle bus services between the different villages allow for hassle-free movement without needing to find parking.

Grenoble and Turin are the closest cities to Courchevel.

January to March are peak season for Courchevel with excellent snowfall. February is generally the peak of high season.

It all depends on what you’re looking for. It’s perfect for a romantic weekend getaway but with access to such a large ski area, filling a week won’t be a problem either. 

Courchevel remains open until late April with plenty of snow around and most lifts running. By the last two weeks, you might see the lower slopes close if it is too warm. But with 85% of slopes at high altitudes, there’s still plenty of skiing to be had.

With its high altitude and north-facing slopes, Courchevel stays snow-sure late into the season. And don’t forget it has state-of-the-art snow making facilities as well as world-class snow groomers on hand too.

First-timers and beginners will find no end of gentle slopes on which to perfect their techniques, with several easily accessible green slopes.

Apart from its reputation for glitz and glamour, Courchevel’s high altitude and snow-sure slopes make it popular as a great ski resort. With access to 600km of pistes and one of the main resorts of Les Trois Vallées ski area, the whole area is completely interlinked with chairlifts, gondolas and cable cars – meaning you can visit any of the above resorts without having to take a bus anywhere.

If skiing isn’t your thing, or you just fancy a break from skiing, you won’t be bored. Thrill-seekers, relaxation, nature lovers, there’s plenty of snow fun without the skis in Courchevel.

Courchevel 1850 is best for beginner boarders. But with access to the largest ski area in the world, Courchevel has no end of intermediate slopes and lots of off-piste and powder. And for the freestylers, your ski pass gives you access to the snow parks across the ski area.

You’re spoilt for choice in Courchevel, with options ranging from 2* to luxurious, cosy traditional chalets, comfortable apartments or lodges to top-end hospitality in palatial hotel-style accommodation, there’s something to fit every budget range.

Each of the 6 villages offer something different and unique. The traditional charm of Saint-Bon captures the original feel of Courchevel as a ski resort. The neighbouring village of La Tania is not as picturesque but offers plenty in terms of modern accommodation and a car-free village. Le Praz is the ultimate chocolate box location with an authentic rustic charm. Courchevel Village is a tranquil oasis tucked away from the hustle and bustle. Moriond is the family- friendly option, but also boasts a lively apres-ski atmosphere in the evenings. And the luxury jewel in the crown is Courchevel 1850, with all the glitz and glamour of a high-end destination. 

As well as the traditional Christmas and New Year markets, during February and early March, watch as Courchevel’s skies come alive with the International Festival of Pyrotechnic Art in February and March. February also sees the world’s greatest skiers converge to compete at the FIS Alpine World Ski Championships.

Courchevel is definitely a family friendly ski destination thanks to its abundance of ski schools, off-slope activities and easy access to the mountain.
