Rockfall on RN90: What it means for your ski transfer
Planning a ski trip to the French Alps? A recent rockfall on the RN90, a key route to many popular ski resorts, may have caused concern for travellers. But don’t worry – while the incident has led to some disruptions, authorities are working hard to clear the road.
At Alps2Alps, we’re staying on top of the situation to ensure your journey is as smooth as possible. Here’s everything you need to know about the rockfall and how it may affect your transfer.
What happened?
If you’re heading to the French Alps for your ski holiday, you may have heard about a rockfall on the RN90 – the main road connecting Albertville and Moûtiers. On Saturday, February 1, 2025, three large boulders, each weighing over 150 tonnes, crashed onto the road, causing significant disruption.
This route is a key access point for many ski resorts, including the Three Valleys, Tignes, Val d’Isère, La Plagne, Les Arcs and La Rosière. While authorities managed to partially reopen the road in the afternoon, full clearance will take a few days.
“We’ve already started clearing the rocks that are on the road. About a quarter of what fell has already been cleared,” said Hervé Gaymard, president of the Savoie department.
